May the Fourth
May 4

Thought I’d share some letterpress wedding invites I did for a couple who are taking their wedding vows today. When files come from a client with quirky inside jokes, I just have to be let in. The hours it takes on press is like a relationship with each project. I had to ask, “why the penguin?”… The answer was simple: penguins mate for life. How sweet.
Star Wars fan rejoice! May the Fourth is on a Saturday this year. (which is why this couple is taking the plunge today)

Past and Present Origami
April 9

“Marc Fichou’s intention here is to create a piece where the image cannot be separated from its referent, thus creating a visual link between past and present. This concept naturally led him towards origami because of the reversible character of its folding process: each can be unfolded back to its creases.
In his series, the sheet of paper contains both the photographic and the material memories of its past origami form. Origami and paper are one and the same thing at two different times, in two different spaces and in two different shapes.”

Unexpected Treasures
February 5

I’m a total sucker for unexpected treasures. This street art by A Common Name is made from shiny folded paper and placed in random holes or cracks on buildings does not disappoint. “The finished shapes represent geodes, crystal, quartz, or any mineral formation that you would normally find in nature, now in our planned out cities.”
Be sure to check out the rest!

Check out the work of Eric Standley… I’m completely floored with his paper stained glass windows.

Time
January 15
I’ve been trying to improve my work/life balance lately.
My press has been screaming my name from the other room… Pearl gets jealous of computer work. Collaborating with Julia again is something I’m looking forward to this year.
…Random thoughts, but hey! at least it’s better than this time last year.
{Isn’t this piece amazing?}

Hanging By A Thread
January 6
Happy New Year!
It’s hard for me to believe that the 2011 and 2012 combined posts here still do not equal 2010 or the years prior. The blog itself is barely hanging on and I’m appreciative of my faithful readers who still stop in. I guess I’ve gravitated more towards twitter and instagram. I prefer the instant gratification of it all. Hopefully in the coming year this space will fill out more – it’s one of my 2013 goals.
The above photo is a paper sculpture by Irving Harper who has a book soon to be released on amazon. “An intimate monograph of the professional and personal creations of a midcentury design legend. Irving Harper is the most famous designer you have never heard of.”
Check out some of his work and watch the video where Harper talks about paper as a versatile medium over on gessato.

Friday Eye Candy & Paper Artist Day
November 30“Daniel Agdag is a Melbourne based artist and filmmaker. He creates meticulous industrial objects of his own imagination. The unassuming use of boxboard as a medium belies elaborate complicated machines and contraptions that preserve the incessant redundancies of the modern industrial world.”
Happy last day of November. Wow, this year is flying by. I’m feeling less and less inspired since I’ve been away from this space. Hopefully things will pick back up around here. Have a great weekend!

Friday Eye Candy
October 5Seems like it’s been a long time since I’ve spent any time in the blogosphere. I hope to crawl my way back in soon. This Anais Nin quote drawn by Lisa Congdon was a perfect fit for today. Enjoy the weekend.
